Special Interest: Countdown Challenge Game

Have a go at making your own countdown challenge cards and play with classmates or family at home!

Enjoy!!

Here is a chance to make a version of the classic Countdown Game.

Choose 6 cards.
Two 2 digit numbers ie. 25, 50, 75,
Four 1 digit cards ie numbers - 1 to 10 - its ok to have double ups.
Make a random three digit target ie 285.

The challenge is to use the numbers available and the four standard operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to hit the target. (if you can)

Each card can only be used once. It may not be necessary to use all the cards.

You may like to take on the challenge on your own or choose to play it as a game in which the first to reach the target gets a point. First to 10 points wins.

An alternative game could set a time limit and require the players to get as close to the target as possible. Each player could start with 100 points and then points could be deducted according to how far from the target each player has reached - e.g. 6 away from the target would mean that 6 points were deducted. After a set number of rounds, the player with the highest score wins.
